The tower consists of six floors, each with a different theme reflecting various periods in its history. These floors include a platform, astronomical observatory, library, clock room, and art gallery. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase to the top for a spectacular panorama of Copenhagen.
Constructed in 1642 by King Christian IV, Rundetårn was initially built as an observatory and library. Today, it remains a functioning observatory and a symbol of Copenhagen’s rich history. With its own museum detailing its past, Rundetårn invites visitors to ascend its spiral ramp and marvel at the 360-degree cityscape.
The tower offers the opportunity to experience the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. The observatory is equipped with telescopes for visitors to observe the stars and planets and also provides guided tours and educational activities for astronomy enthusiasts.
From the top of Rundetårn, you can enjoy views of the old city center, charming streets, canals, the harbor, and the spires of the Town Hall and numerous churches. On a clear day, you can even spot the Øresund Bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden.
Please note that there are no restaurants inside Rundetårn; however, the tower is an ideal spot for learning about its history and taking in the city’s stunning views.
