Ginnungagap est le grand vide b\u00e9ant qui existait avant la cr\u00e9ation du cosmos dans la mythologie nordique. Au d\u00e9but, il n’y avait rien, seulement des t\u00e9n\u00e8bres.<\/p>\n\n

C’\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois qu’Ymir vivait. Il n’y avait ni sable, ni mer, ni vagues froides, ni terre, ni ciel, ni verdure, seulement Ginnungagap. V\u00f6lusp\u00e1, strophe 3.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

<\/p>\n\n

Ginnungagap est un assemblage de deux mots : ginnunga et gap. Le mot gap en vieux norrois signifie la m\u00eame chose qu’en anglais moderne. Cependant, la signification de ginnunga est incertaine. Le sp\u00e9cialiste n\u00e9erlandais de la linguistique germanique et de la mythologie germanique, Jan De Vries, a sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 qu’il pourrait \u00eatre interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 comme signifiant \u00ab\u00a0charg\u00e9 de magie\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n

Soudain, d’un moment \u00e0 l’autre, deux immenses terres commenc\u00e8rent \u00e0 se former, Niflheim au nord et Muspelheim au sud de Ginnungagap.<\/p>\n\n

Niflheim \u00e9tait un endroit froid et sombre, rien ne pouvait y pousser et il n’\u00e9tait constitu\u00e9 que de glace, de neige et de givre. C’est l\u00e0 que les deux \u00eatres, Audhumbla et Ymir, allaient fa\u00e7onner le destin de tous les \u00eatres.<\/p>\n\n

Au sud, \u00e0 Muspelheim, l’air \u00e9tait charg\u00e9 de suie, et il faisait si chaud que la lave s’enflammait, projetant d’immenses flammes de feu dans le n\u00e9ant.<\/p>\n\n

Les deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments oppos\u00e9s se rencontr\u00e8rent au milieu de la grande br\u00e8che, des \u00e9tincelles de feu incandescentes jaillirent de Muspelheim et firent fondre la glace dense au bord de Niflheim, ce qui entra\u00eena la naissance d’un \u00eatre.<\/p>\n\n

Selon V\u00f6lva, dans le po\u00e8me V\u00f6lusp\u00e1, la cr\u00e9ation et la fin du cosmos se sont produites pendant des \u00e9ons et continueront \u00e0 se produire. Le cosmos s’effondrera \u00e0 nouveau dans un grand vide de n\u00e9ant charg\u00e9 de magie.<\/p>\n\n
