Dans la mythologie nordique, Ymir \u00e9tait un \u00eatre primitif qui existait avant tous les dieux Ases. C’\u00e9tait \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 tout ce que l’on pouvait voir \u00e0 perte de vue \u00e9tait fait de glace et de neige.<\/p>\n\n

Ymir a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 lorsque l’air chaud du pays du feu (Muspelheim) a rencontr\u00e9 les rivi\u00e8res glac\u00e9es d’\u00c9liv\u00e1gar au milieu du Ginnungagap. La glace a fondu et un \u00eatre en est sorti. Cet \u00eatre est l’anc\u00eatre de tous les j\u00f6tnar (g\u00e9ants), et chaque j\u00f6tunn (singulier) descend de lui.<\/p>\n\n

Ymir \u00e9tait un \u00e9norme g\u00e9ant des glaces, bien plus grand que tous ses descendants. Il passait le plus clair de son temps \u00e0 boire le lait chaud et d\u00e9licieux de la vache g\u00e9ante Audhumbla. Rien ne semblait satisfaire sa faim, se nourrir du pis de la vache \u00e9tait tout ce qu’il voulait faire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pendant qu’il se gavait de pis, la vache Audhumbla avait d\u00e9couvert un autre \u00eatre en l\u00e9chant un des rochers de chaux sal\u00e9e, il s’agissait de B\u00fari, l’anc\u00eatre de tous les Ases.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Dans la mythologie nordique, le commencement du monde est une p\u00e9riode \u00e9trange. Nous ne savons pas s’il s’agit de Seidr (magie) ou de la volont\u00e9 de la nature, mais \u00e0 partir des aisselles d’Ymir, deux nouveaux \u00eatres se sont form\u00e9s, un m\u00e2le et une femelle. Les jambes d’Ymir s’accoupl\u00e8rent \u00e9galement et un \u00eatre \u00e0 six t\u00eates vit le jour.<\/p>\n\n

Les trois dieux, Odin, Vili et V\u00e9, d\u00e9testaient les j\u00f6tnar, en particulier le gourmand, bruyant et glouton Ymir, et ils d\u00e9cid\u00e8rent donc d’\u00e9laborer un plan pour s’en d\u00e9barrasser. C’\u00e9tait une initiative risqu\u00e9e de la part des Ases, car le j\u00f6tunn de givre \u00e9tait grand, fort et dangereux, et ils devaient donc \u00eatre extr\u00eamement prudents.<\/p>\n\n

Quand le moment fut venu, ils attaqu\u00e8rent, une longue et horrible bataille eut lieu, s’ils se battirent pendant des heures, des jours ou m\u00eame des mois, personne ne le sait, mais \u00e0 la fin, les dieux furent victorieux sur le corps sans vie d’Ymir.<\/p>\n\n

Les trois dieux ont utilis\u00e9 sa chair pour cr\u00e9er le monde, le sang est devenu l’oc\u00e9an, les os les montagnes, les cheveux les arbres, le cerveau les nuages, le cr\u00e2ne le ciel et les sourcils le royaume de Midgard, la patrie de l’homme.<\/p>\n\n

Pendant que les trois dieux cr\u00e9aient le monde, le cadavre commen\u00e7a \u00e0 pourrir, et de la chair apparurent de petits asticots, qui devinrent les nains.<\/p>\n\n
